mountfield empress 16?

when trying to start engine ,when you pull starter cord engine hard to turn over, it also kicks back snatching starter rope from hand.

check the flywheel key hasn't sheared (remove flywheel to do this) check the crank is not bent (remove blade, take out spark plug and turn over engine while somebody looks along the crank.
