How can I clean a Stirella SX8040D iron?

My stirella iron is spitting out whitish brown water every so often - which is very noticeable on dark clothes, the marks don't sponge off - resulting in more washing. I can't find the manual that came with the iron - can anyone tell me how to clean it?

The iron is spitting out a lot of clean water and making the clothes soaking wet

I have found the following useful info; SIMAC who produce the Stirella have gone into administration but have been taken over by De Longhi who now honour the warranty (advised by John Lewis). For cleaning I have been advised two options, both assume use of the CalStop additive.

1. If you are only seeing brown staining then it may be a build up of the CalStop. To correct this, fill the resevoir with tap water and run on continous steam for two cycles then revert to using the CalStop once every 3 to 4 fills.

2. If you are seeing scale and staining then DO NOT USE standard descaler. Add 5 vials of CalStop and set the iron to hot with a continous steam cycle. CalStop is a preventattive measure and not a descaler as such but I have spoken to a sales rep at De Longhi in the UK who advised this will aslo clean the machine. Once this has completed, fill the reservoir and repeat the steam cycle again and revert to using CalStop only once every 3 to 4 fills (based on using the iron 2-3 times a week)

**USING STANDARD APPLIANCE DESCALER WILL BREAK THE MACHINE

Are you filling it with softened water? We had the same symptoms, and apaprently, it wrecks the insides for some reason. I think you have to use normal hard water. We had to get a new iron...

ermm, this isnt exactly an answer to your question, but this is the exact problem I am having with the Stirella iron. I believe it is limescale (its the same colour as the limescale that built up on my shower head) The reason I am on this site is find out how to descale the Stirella. The hole through which the descaled water would have to run is so small. Also, I read that de scaling is not always recommened on steam irons. I cant find any answers on this site, ony lots of questions! Good luck.
