1997 Waveventure Starting Problem?

I have a 1997 Yamaha 1100 Waveventure. It has been acting up when I try to start it over the last year. Sometimes it starts fine, but other times it acts completely dead. When it acts dead, I can get it to start by tapping on the top of the box on the front of the engine. Last weekend, it went dead and no amount of tapping would work. The battery is fully charged and the fuse is fine. I'm thinking it could be the starting switch or the starter relay, but am looking for some help from someone with more experience.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

You might need a new Starter Clutch or take the old one out and if it's not all rusted to hell put some WD-40 on it and excercise it a bit.
