my hedge trimmer started to smoke, can it be fixed?

I was cutting my hedge when the hedge cutter started to smoke can this be fixed or do I need to buy another one

If you can get a replacement motor (depends on the make) then generally the cost would put it beyond economical repair. Any electric machine sub £100 that requires a motor isn't work repairing unless you particularly want to be eco-friendly and repair it and hang the cost.
