i have a hotpoint aquarius and am trying to locate the brushes the motor seems to be at the bottom on the machine is this where the brushes are or can i get to them from the top of the machine. it is just a little door at the bottom of the machine and really hard to work at as it is near the floor.

This is quite an easy job and only requires a spanner and a screwdriver.

FIRST DISCONNECT THE MACHINE FROM THE MAINS.

The motor is at the bottom of the machine.

Take off the metal plate at the back of the machine, removing the six screws to gain access to the motor. Remove the earth and cable connector from the motor. Slide off the fanbelt, and remove the two screws, with washers, that hold the motor in place, it will not drop down like some motors being held in place by the plastic of the drum. Now pull the motor from the drum and drop it to the floor. Lift the back of the washing machine to remove the motor. It is now easy to see, remove, and replace the carbon brushes. You can often get a machine working again by removing the brush holders, then just pulling on the brushes against their springs and then refitting them. This might give you a few extra weeks use of the machine while you get the new carbon brushes.

Put all the parts back in the same order as they were taken off.

Note: Fit the drive belt to the motor first and then slidie it onto the back of the drum as you slowly rotate it.

in my 1100 machine the motor is at the top remove the lid 2 screws at the top rear slide back the top and remove lid MOTOR IS IN FRONT OF YOU brushes are located at the commutator end easy to replace
