peugeot 206 wont start?

206 diesel hdi 1.9 w reg. the battery powers everything lights clock radio etc but when i go to actually start the engine the battery light goes out and its silence ( all other lights clock radio go out) rac reccomended replacing battery which i have done, got me home but was straining to start. tried start car again to test as i presumed it just needed to charge up slightly but silence. nothing. help please

I think Caine is on the right track. When checking the connections don't forget the earth lead connections and cables too. On 206's the one between the gearbox and the bodywork is renowned for cracking/breaking.

Going on a hunch here,remove and clean both battery terminals.metal must be clean and bright and the clamps must tighten down secure onto the bat terminals.sounds like lost voltage due to crap conections .at the very least you should hear a click from starter solonoid even with a flat bat.
