Replace flywheel in a 89 Toyota camry?

When starting, it did not engage, but made a whirring noise, we pushed the car, and then it started. The man who helped told us the flywheel had some teeth missing and would need to be replace, and we needed to "drop the tranny". How to you do this?

4-5 hour job with garage equipment..before u do,put car in gear and push the car 2 ft so the engine turns .f ring gears only ever wear out in one or two places so moving the engine/flyweel presents an unworn section on the flyweel.if no joy with that ,remove starter motor and test same.when motor is out, flywheel ring gear teeth can be inspected.I'd put my money on a faulty starter motor drive gear.
