Replacing Vectra Rear Outer Suspension Bushes
I knocking noise from the rear is usually down to the rear suspension bushes.

It is generally the outer bushes on the wishbone side of the trailing links that wear out first, and the top of the two that wears most.

Get a pair of bushes (or 4 if you are keen), and buy or borrow a bush removal tool.

I got both the tool and the bushes for a good price on Ebay.

Jack up the rear of the car and remove the road wheel.

You can now see the trailing link and bush.

Remove the bush securing bolt (18mm)

Lift the trailing link clear of the bush and fit the bush removal tool as per the instructions. (I found it easier to push the bush towards the back of the car, and fit the new one in the same direction). Use plenty of WD40 on the tool and the bush.

Here with the removal tool fitted, tighten the nut to push the bush out.

It is tight but don't use more than a foot long bar, as you can snap the tool bolt (I broke one)

Her with the tool fitted for pulling in the new bush. Make sure the bush is aligned correctly, so it pulls in straight.

Refit the trailing link and bolt, and then refit the wheel, if you aren't replacing the bottom bush.

Repeat for the other side.

Took me an hour to do both top bushes.

Tool was £34.50 on ebay.

Bushes were £18 for a pair on ebay.
