What does it mean when the on/off (start) button flashes on the ADP 2440?

My mum's Whirlpool dishwasher ADP 2440 wh has stopped working. The on/off button flashes and when you press it the machine makes a noise but doesn't fill or do anything else. Has it had it's last day?

ADP2440WH is a dishwasher.. I have one too, that has just started flashing the start button - a 3 flash burst.
As the machine fills and then empties, showing the prewash light irrespective of the program, i think that this may be a thermostat or heater fault - can anyone confirm?

Hi Em, I do not think it is a ADP2440 as that is a model number for a cooker hood.It may be ADP8332 or its family.Can you tell me how many times it flashes between pauses and I can tell you what the fault is and costs. All the best.
