How do I change the pull cord on my 3.5 Briggs and Stratton Lawn Mower?

I need to know how to change the pull cord assembly and also the spring assembly on my push mower
Roxanne, August 2008
I have to replace the pullcord on a Briggs and Stratton 55 Quantum lawn mower. When I remove the 3 bolts as suggested by mr Scott then I can remove the fuelreservoir but not yet the coil assembly. The assembly seems to be hold down by an other 3 fasteners that I can not unscrew ( type popnails). how to get to the cord now? Also : I must replace the cord , not a complete assembly.

Most BRIGGS engines of this size have the recoil assy as part of the cowling. Replacement is rarely needed - repairs are easy. Replacement springs are available, as is replacement starter rope.

What model engine?

Most recoil assemblies have some 3 bolts or screws that hold them on. Unbolt the assembly and replace it with a new one if needed.
