Citreon Xantia '98 1.9td judders when accelerating - any ideas ??

Hi.

I have a Citreon Xantia 1998 1.9td. When you accelerate the car seems to judder. It only happens when you accelerate OR the engine is understrain. The gear stick wobbles from side to side and the whole body seems to judder. The judder feels worse on the nearside. It is not felt through the steering only through the body. Any ideas ?? Could it possibly be a CV joint and if so how do l check ??

Cheers.

I have a similar issue on a Skoda Fabia. Do you find that this appears randomly under no particular conditions or is it pretty constant? Does the judder cut immediately when you ease off the power? I've taken mine to the garage and they can't find anything obvious.

CV joint test is easy.find a car park thats empty and drive slowly from stop with the steering wheel at full lock ie hard left and listen for the crackling sound of tortured metal.then try hard right.if no noise then cv's are ok.Im more inclined to think you'r prob is clutch related, especially if your model is fitted with a dual mass flywheel.
