My dash goes out intermittently. It returns if knocked leading me to think there is a loose connection or dry joint. How to gain access to it?

brought a second hand renault espace,only cheap thank god,my led display also plays up badly with no warnin g lights for the oil and the "ok" diesel light oh yes forgot to say that mines a mk3 r reg 2.2 diesel.ive found a rather suspitcious looking relay in the ashtray and wondered if the problem could just be a faulty relay switch,theres a few of them in the fusebox under the passenger footwell,try asking about faulty relay switches as im going to and "if"thats the problem then happy days coz theyre cheap,every and any renault mechanic is going to tell its a expensive job so get to the bottom of it yourself if poss.good luck and any info i find on this i will share.

Speedo sensor on the back of the gearbox may have gone up the shoot, or the cable between the ECU and the speed sensor is broken/shorting. Mine was the sensor, replaced and workikng fine now..

i have a 1998 renault epsace and have numurous problems with the light cluster but fortunately it is simple to access the panel.

remove both speaker covers at each side of the dash and unscrew the 3 screws securing the speakers in place, once they have been undone carefully remove the speakers and unplug.

once the speakers are gone the top part of the dash should simply pull away exposing the light cluster. when i did this to mine i discovered that the power is transfered to the bulbs via a printed curcuit board which had become damaged and wasn't distributing the charge and therefore not eluminating the bulbs.

I have the same problem on my W reg Espace. sometimes the dash does not light up untill 5 miles into a journey. Have just been quoted between £350 to £650 by a local auto electrician. Seems very steep.
