Flymo Compact 330 Power Switch Problems?

Hi

Both my neighbour and myself have the same Flymo Compact PC 330 and both have appear to have the same/similar faults

His - Is permanently on as soon as you plug in the power lead. It is also very tempermental and cuts out after being on a while

Mine - Started to cut out and now does not power up at all

My gut feel is that both a related to the handle switches but wondered if anyone had any ideas on this before I invest in spares (not even knowing where to get them), as I would hate just to put them into landfill without giving them a second chance

Thanks in advance

If it's the capacitor it blows the fuse (or trips . . .) Make sure the spare to be fitted is correct for the model, they differ.

my cure was to remove the switch and connect the wires and the capacitor into a connecting block ,I realize that doing this the machine is on as soon as I plug in ,but for me this isn't a problem and in some ways makes the machine safer from a point of cleaning as you obviously have to pull the plug .

Ive had two flymo easyglide 300's and they both developed this problem. They won't turn off! Help!

for continious running problems take switch assembly apart and spray with elect. fluid the part behind pushbutton it is only sticking in live position...easy

Just took the switch unit out of the lawnmower handle and although fiddly, you can clean up the contacts inside which had become corroded and this fixed the problem. Depends on how keen you are but either way you will likely have to take the switch apart in any event during the fit / refit. Usual warni g about ellectrical saftey and checking proper safe operation after repair / refit. Best of luck. Warban

I am having the same problem with mine. i will try looking at the switch.. and also the power lead... Thanks for the advice.... with regards to spare parts, i have heard that e-spares.com are very good and reasonably priced...

its the switch buy a new one the frost wrecks them easy to change but you need star screwdriver to open it up

There's another switch under the hood so that it will only run when the lid is closed - well that's the theory! Remove grassbox. Its at the back of the top front orange part - in a small rectangular "boxed" area. I had to cut a tiny piece of wood about 1/2" x 1" (from memory) and stick it in there with tape as the lid wasn't engaging this switch when the lid is closed.

Thanks Pleasant and Mikey for your quick replies

Pleasant - the £4 switch is certainly worth a shot, you seem to be be familiar with this and so could I ask you direct me to a website/supplier where I could source this from

Cheers from not so sunny Swindon

First certainly is a switch problem which will be located within the switchbox assembly. A replacement switch is only about £4.00, so if you can change it yourself then it would be worth investigating.

Yours could be more serious- probably not the switch as the either work or they don't, so not likely to start to cut out. Could very well be the motor- these have a habit of bearing failing which causes them to tighten up and gradually slow the motor to a stop. Generally you will get some smoke and/or humming coming from it. Another fault could simply be a work hardened break in the mains cable (the one from the plug into the switchbox- to test this, plug it in, press the start button and pull the switch lever- whilst holding the lever in the on position, with you free hand roughly whip the mains cable around- especially near to the switchbox- if there is an internal break the mower should switch on and off.

I must admit that I am not familiar with this Flymo mower, but it sounds to me so though it is an electric mower. and it sounds to me like the armature which is the main part of the motor is trying to go out on the both of you and you may have no other choice but to let go and send them to the great beyond. Sorry:

Hope this will help to make it a little easier to let go of your old friend:
