Does anyone know of a reset for airbag light on nissan terrano. ?

Light is driving me mad and don't like paying garage for reset that may last a few weeks. I have heard turning ignition off/on for a set time might work?

Assuming you did the ignition self diagnosis and have got the fault code and then repaired the fault, the airbag light will flash regularly, until the fault code has been erased.I have a 1997 terrano 2.7tdi,and no matter how many tricks I tried off the various forums non worked. My fault codes were 2 long flashes followed by 7 short flashes then repeated, which according to Nissan codes meant that the airbag module was malfunctioning.I replaced the module with a £40 second hand working unit and did the ignition self diagnosis again ,this time it flashed constantly, this code was ,problem fixed but fault codes still logged in memory, and the only way to clear this is to take it to an auto electrician with the correct diagnostic equipment at a cost of approx £40,do not waste money on the E BAY code readers as I did they will not link up to the ECU.

If it has the grey 14 pin multiplug you will have to take it to an auto electrician who for an average cost of approx £40 ish, will clear any codes logged in the memory,BUT only after you have corrected the fault in the first place.

I found this on the web and it worked perfectly for me. The problem reoccurred about 4 months later. I just repeated the exercise and it has been OK since. I printed off these instructions and put them in my glovebox!
1. Turn ignition key part way so that lights on dash come on but don't start the engine.
2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few seconds and as soon as it blinks off turn the key to off INSTANTLY.
3. Count to 5.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 above twice so that you have completed this cycle 3 times.
5. Turn the key again and watch the light. It should start blinking more slowly. This is in diagnostic mode. No need to hurry this time, but turn off and count to 5 again.
6. This should do the trick, if not, have another go.
Good luck

Here's the process to reset the air bag light (copied from somewhere else on the forum)... I tried it and it works.

If you have the airbag light, it will show steady for a few seconds (the manual says 7 secs) after you turn the key from off to on (but not start) and then start to flash. Here is how to reset it:

1. Turn the key from off to on.

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

If it does not work the first time, just repeat the steps again.

airbag lights coming on are usually caused by faulty connections under the seats especially if they are moved for different drivers, check these connections on both seats if not when you take it to be reset ask what the actual fault is .
