how do you disconnect the ribbon cable which connects the screen to the mother board

the green light comes on when it is being charged but does not start up. Also the light is not on atall if i try and start the tomtom using its own battery for power
Please help, as the cost to repair a tomtom one is nearly the price to buy a new one!
