Help with Lexar Jumpdrive?

Operating system Win 2K SP4
I have previously used a Lexar jumpdrive to transfer my data between a work Laptop and a home desktop , with no problems.
The drive still works OK on my laptop (also Win 2K) but my desktop will not recognise it (ie the Icon doesnt appear in the Window) Heres the weird bit though all other USB conns work fine and if I click the unplug and eject icon it seems to say it is there but showng the Yellow Exc mark. If I go into the device mgr it is shown but says the device is not started , updating the driver returns a msg something like the device failed to install due a driver function .... not being specified. If I start in safe mode I can install it OK and use it as normal but in normal mode I am back to square 1. I have tried to see if there is a driver conflict with something that doesnt run in safe mode but to no avail (it starts to get beyond me at this point)
The other USB items installed are Printer, Sagem ADSL modem , Scanner and USB sync to Ipaq 2210. All worked OK with each other previously. Other pen drives etc still work fine on this desktop.
Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

Paul

All I did to fix this was put it a bottle of alcohol and let it drive and everything works again.

With your faulty drive plugged in, go to the device manager. You will find the same yellow Icon you described. remove this driver and refresh. The driver will be reinstalled, and the drive will work. I have windows xp, so I can't look to see exactly how the device manager is set up. The important thing is to remove the bad driver. You could then restart to refresh, or sometimes just wait. jeremy has it right though... try his first.

i was having the same symptoms, maybe we had the same problem. i went to device manager when i had the drive plugged into a usb port. towards the bottom there was a group called "storage devices" i think, and under it was listed "generic mass storage" or something. it had a red x on the icon. i clicked on it to get to properties, and it said that the device was disabled. i think maybe it did that automatically when i accidentally pulled my drive out of the usb port without going through the "safely unplug hardware" thing that sits in the system tray. anyway, all i had to do was tell it to enable the device, and i'm back in business. hope this helps
