Lawn mower stalls when I start to mow grass?

I start my lawn mower and it starts weak and then finally runs full throttle, then when I actually start to mow my grass the motor starts fading and then stops. I am a single woman with no man around the house. Is this something I can fix? I have new air filter, what else do I need to do? It's murray. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

New plug is always worth a try - a stronger spark will ignite a weaker mixture more reliably.

If not, your symptoms are of fuel starvation. Either a blocked fuel line, of (more likely) water in the carb float bowl.

Jennifer, I had a similar problem with my lawnmower recently ( Honda Izzy), I too tried everything, new filter, cleaned out the fuel tank, cleaned out the carb. As a last resort i re gapped the spark plug,It worked. So i bought a new plug and the mower runs like new. Hope it works for you. please let me know on wembley666@yahoo.com Good Luck
