how to test heater element in hotpoint washing machine?

my hotpoint washing machine model no wm31 started to trip out. how can i test out the heater element.

without a test meter its not easy other than to say disconnect the wires to the heater and run it.if it doesn't trip then you can have a fair reason to suspect the element
