very hot engine?

I have a X reg 1.8 zetec focus. Engine gets extreemly hot on short trips. Not tried it on a long one yet....

Timing belt went on the car a few months ago and had to have 14 inner and 10 outer valves replaced.

Any ideas as to what is wrong??????

i could have sworn that engine only had 16 valves total.any way inner/outer?lets hope you missheard.damaged valves are usually exhaust and inlet.something stinks about this.did your mechanics do a competant job.i have doubts.1st thing is to actually check how hot it gets.cooling system is pressurised so the boiling point is closer to 114degrees than normal.(100).has the thermostat been changed.the possibilities for overheating after a dammage job like this could be anything from a bent camshaft partially seizing(my choice) to debris getting into the cooling system an wrecking the coolant pump impeller.i/you need more data.
