Hey ian it is possible that you have a broken spring 1. or your mechanism is bent due to you not being able to recline you will have to turn the chair over to see which is the case then depending on which it is you might have to replace or reattach the spring which is the most easiest and cost effective to repair or if its the mechanism you will have to have it replace,give me a call sometime i own and operate a furniture repair and upholstery company and we are in a few states.GOOD LUCK 6789787321 KERRY
