peugeot 206 auto gearbox?

my auto gearbox in peugeot 206 1.4 lx will drive forward fine but once in reverse just revs any ideas to try before expensive rebuild i think there has been a leak of fluid could this be to blame

I would first make sure that the linkage is engaging properly when you move the lever to reverse position.
