Fiat Brava 1.2 Cutting Out/Stalling Help PLEASE !!?

Hi All
I have a Fait Brava SX 2001 1.2 that is cutting out.
The car has been to a local mechanic who hooked it up to the computer and he informed me that the ECU's diagnosis told him the occasional cutting out was down to a barometric pressure sensor which (in his experience!) generally means there is a pin hole in one of the rubber pipes on the engine but at that time it would be too small to detect.

His advice was to wait until it got worse ie: car cutting out/stalling on a regular basis (the theory being that the hole would then be big enough to detect easily ..)

Well the car went back in last week as it now cuts out every day, bl**dy dangerous now !!! Anyway, this time he said he looked & listened but still could not find a hole so his next option would have to be to change the M.A.P sensor. He also said that if that did not fix the problem I would have to replace the ECU..

OK so here I am 200 pounds lighter & still a knackered conking out car ! Any thoughts or experiences would be great folks as I now need to decide when to cut & run it cost me 600 pounds last year for a gearbox bearing & clutch this car only has 45000 miles & been driven gently all its life but I cant afford to continue like this ...PLEASE HELP ME !!!

Your mechanic doesn't seem to know what he is talking about does he? Basically the ECU is a injection system. Slosh your car from side to side while the fuel filler cap is open. If you can hear a grinding noise then its the ECU. Take the car to a main dealer they will change the system for about £90-£100.
