How can I fix my lexmark x3480. Error code "cover open"?

My lexmark x3480has the error code "cover open". The cover is definitley down but the error message remains and therefore the printer doesnot work. Any ideas how to fix it?

Open the printer and remove the grey cover. In the back there is a green printed circuit board. On the back of that the is a small black switch. A white lever is supposed to be attached here, but it always falls off. If you can find the lever, put it back on, or else, find a small piece of plastic or wood or something and duct tape it so that the switch is always in. Problem solved.

Looking at the front of the printer, there is a micro switch at the back right hand side. It is supposed to have a white plastic lever attached over the top of it, but due to a poor design it falls of when you sometimes lift open the scanner to say change a ink cartridge. You need to remove the scanner by releasing the grey clip at the front right and then the white clip on the left, careful how pull out the flat cable and power feed. If you can find the white plastic lever and re clip it back on (don't force it on) the printer should work again ok. Note when re assembling gently press in the lever with a screwdriver when closing the scanner back down. Best of luck its just poorly made and needs to be treated like glass to give a faultless performance.
