Why's my ford fiesta spluttering?

I have a '96 fiesta with the 1.2 endura-e engine. It's started spluttering (not convinced that its "missing") and on occasions it stalls when I pulling up at junctions etc. It's not a constant problem but it is now happening enough to make it a worry. Any ideas?

Thanks Nigel, I'll get it plugged in!

Hi Paul, in that case first check all the vacuum pipes connected to the inlet manifold for splits/holes with the engine idling flex all the pipes and listen for a "hissing" if this is all OK, then it could be a number of things like, throttle position sensor, mass airflow sensor, engine coolant temp sensor, fuel pressure regulator, injectors So your best bet is to get the car connected to a diagnostic reader and this will narrow down the faulty item otherwise you will be just replacing components blind so a £30 diagnostic readout will save you money in the long run!!

Sorry, it's a 1.3!

Paul, when you say 1.2 do you mean the 1120cc(1.1) or the 1298cc(1.3) as the 1.2 is normally the 1.25 zetec. The fault finding will be different for the different engine sizes!!
