Could be. Subarus are certainly known for these sorts of issues. You'd need to have it connected to a diagnostic computer. Suggest you sell it quick once it has been repaired. They can have some serious expensive problems once the boxer engines get older. If you want reliability, the standard inline 4 cylinders are the way to go.
