How do i get a starter motor off my 1.8 petrol freelander?

I own a 1.8 GS freelander and the starter motor has packed up on me. 1. Where is it? 2. How do I get it off? 3. I have got a guy willing to repair it but its up to me to get it off, HELP!!!

Its quite straight forward if you have the tools, First remove the Air box (lower section by removing 2 - 8mm bolts. This gives better access to the starter motor. Next you need a 15mm socket and an 18mm spanner. You can then loosen the two bolts which hold the starter in position.
Once loose, leave them and remove the two electrical connections on the starter. One pulls off and the other needs a 13mm spanner. The top bolt of the starter has a tie rod attached as well. Undue this from the antivibration mount with a 13mm spanner. You can now finnish undoing the two starter motor bolts and the unit just pulls of to the right. Should take about 1/2 hour being careful. The Two bolts may be tight so spray with wd40 first.

You could do more damage than good trying to take it off without the correct mechanical knowledge. I would take it to a garage, and never work on the alternator without disconnecting the battery first.
