my 2.3 Diesel ford transit 1996?

The engine makes a heavy cluncking noise and black smoke charges out the back. When I call for the AA they say the diesel valve has gone.

WHAT IS THE DIESEL VALVE CAN SOMEONE TELL ME?

its probably a 2.5
youll find its probably the egr valve look to the right hand side of the engine looking twards the rear.
youll see a pipe that goes to the exaust maifold with too bolts hoding it at the bottom end
follow this pipe to the other end this will be the egr valve it will have a rubber pipe going somewhere from it disconnect this rubber pipe noise and smoke should stop

Ford never fitted a 2.3 diesel, do you know what the engine came out of?

Not a clue what a diesel valve is, are you sure that's what the AA Man said?
