FORD Ka Steering Wheel removal?

Can anyone tell me how to remove a Ford Ka steering wheel safetly? It seems to be rubbing on something and sounds like theres sand or grit underneath when turning it. Bit worried about airbag? Any advice would be great Thanks

how do you get the plastic cowling sleeve off the steering column? I have removed 4 screws but cannot unclip the plastic sleeve.

The noise your hearing might be the same one that my daughters KA is making. Remove the cowl by removing four screws, and at the base of the wiper stalk there is a spring loaded pin that touches the back of the steering wheel. Push it in to see if this noise stops.
The problem with the pin is that i have no idea of its purpose or fuction. I have tried greasing the plate, but to no avail. Try this before you start pricing up parts.

Thanks for the information Nigel, just to confirm tho, when the allen bolts are removed, does the top cover of the steering wheel lift up to allow access to main retaining bolt? Just want to be clear before I start. Cheers

Hi, first make sure you have the security code for the radio!! then disconnect the battery and then remove the cowling from around the steering column, this will allow a safe time before removing the airbag, the airbag is held in place with two allen bolts from behind the steering wheel, with the bolts out the airbag should come away from the wheel, disconnect the yellow connector from the centre of the airbag, then make sure the road wheels are pointing straight ahead and the steering lock is engaged, then the bolt in the centre can be undone and the wheel removed.
