changing audi a3 brake pads?

do i need a special tool to compress the brake caliper?

Depends sometimes you can get away with using a G clamp or just a big screwdriver/lever to push them back depends how old and rusty they are. But just ease them back slowly if you use a lever, and make sure you push them back squarely.
