How can I fix my electrolux 2100 canister vacuum cleaner?

I had to replace the cord winder as it was burned out and no electricity was getting to the motor. After replacing it I had electricity to the motor and the on/off switch but motor still wouldn't work. Traced problem to right hand light housing where contact apparently was not being made between white and yellow wires from source. When I connected the white and yellow wire outside of the housing the machine works. Could the housing be the problem? Service people say no, because only lights are affected there. I say something is wrong because there is no contact between white and yellow wires. What's the verdict? Could that housing be the problem?

Open the door where the bag goes; then slide the side detail rails that have the name & model number on them, towards you as you face the filter end of the machine. These are actually clamps that hold the top and bottom sections of the canister together. Be very careful when you take them apart, as there are wires in there with quick-connects that can come apart easily.( Mine did, and I still haven't figured out where the wires are supposed to go. I need a wiring diagram! ) then you can get at the switch.

ReReading your posting:
I think that this is one of those questions that has the answer in it: Connect the yellow and white wires and it works just as you say it does: So connect the 2 of them and you hopefully have your problem solved.

It would be unusual for an indicator light to disable the vacuum as the power generally goes to both the components, which in this case is the motor, AND the indicator light. Thus they are usually hooked up in Parallel and not in Series: the power doesn't usually go THROUGH the indicator light and then to the motor.
What about the on off switch? Is the power getting to there and then past it when turned on? Switches do get oxidized and sometimes develop a non conductive layer. But this is usually something that occurs in low voltage environments. In higher power level such as this 120 VAC, the contacts are more likely to burn out from arcing. Usually they will become intermittent first and wiggling them around or turning things on and off several times may make it work sometimes. If so, then this is your culprit. Try bypassing all of the controls and indicators and put power straight to the motor. If this works then this obviously isn't your problem and you need to look elsewhere. Do you have a Volt/Ohm meter to trouble shoot with? Though unlikely, the indicator light may be at a lower voltage. So if the motor works with the power hooked directly to it, then bypass one thing at a time until you find the culprit

A question: How did you get the canister apart? I can likely fix anything inside it once I have access to the guts, but so far I haven't been able to 'crack the Safe'. Any info in this regard would be appreciated.
Plus once I'm in there I'll be able to look at your problem as well and perhaps help you with this as well.

Take a good look inside for any disconnected wires. That may sound dopey and nonspecific, but when I was repairing the switch mechanism, I pulled a wire loose and didn't notice it until I'd put it back together and it didn't work. There are wires that are easy to pull loose and overlook. BTW look for disconnected hoses too.

Vacuum shows bag full indication light even when new empty bag is inserted.

I am way behind youy. How do you open up the machine to get at the switch and motor. All that I can figure out at this point is that the switch isn't working
