Hi ,i had the same problem , ask your dealer to do a diagnostic check and if you get this code DF084 - transverse sensor signal circuit.permanant
This is a sensor under central console (near parking brake). If plug is ok then probably the sensor needs to be replaced. (not ESP computer). New sensor should be calibrated after replacement.
you can tell your mechanic to check:
sensor plug - track 1 - goes to track 6 of ESP electronic module
sensor plug - track 2 - goes to track 24 of ESP electronic module
sensor plug - track 3 - goes to track 26 of ESP electronic module if you prefer to get a local garage to do it with a universal reader it should be fault code 5103 transverse signal sensoe fault permanant ,this will be a cheaper diagnosis but you will still have to go to renault to have it calibrated , hope this helps ,it did it for me the warning was driving me mad , Alan

Paul,
I had the same problem on my 2001 sport tourer.
Go to the site www.dashwarninglights.co.uk. Peter the guy who runs DWLs is really helpful with diagnostics on this problem. We found that the ABS was faulty. I replaced it with a unit from a car breakers, which I found using a search site called 1stchoice. Peter fitted the ABS which was perfect but the ESP light came on. Diagnostics on this revealed that the problem was the new ABS unit did not recgnise the steering angle sensor. Currently this can only be reset by a Renault main dealer which cost around £60.

Best of luck,
