thanks bob for answering my question,but if the sunroof motor has disengaged from the mechanisam,would i be able to fix it myself or is the motor sealed meaning i would need a new motor?

Your post said you could hear the motor running but nothing happens, therefore it sounds like the motor is ok buy has become "detached" from the mechanism which opens the roof. Hence the only way to check or even get to it to fix it, is to dismantle your roof lining around the sunroof. Not an easy job and you just might make things worse if you are not sure what you are doing.
