freezer when plugged in immediately sparks at rear bottom where wires are housed next to gas bottle. the spark is intense and bright white. there is smoke which is bluish in colour and it smells of heat and burming

It sounds as though you have a unit with a Danfoss compressor and the {burst into flames relay] has gone , I call them that as they sometimes do, get a replacement relay, clean away ALL carbon from burn and replace 9 times out of ten it will be OK. The reason for the blinding white burn is a carbon arc from burning diode in relay.

this should not be happening and is extremely dangerous. Your mains curcuit breaker should trip out the second any sparks occur. You should call a good electrician immediately.
Your freezer sounds like it has shorted compressor and is unlikely to be repairable.
