How can I get a new belt onto a Hotpoint WMA10 washing machine ?

I'm trying to get a new belt onto a Hotpoint WMA10 washing machine but there seems no possible way to get it on. Any other machine I've replaced the belt on the motor can "swivel" once releasing a pinch bolt that takes up the tension but the motor on the WMA10 seems to be held in place by lugs at 3 points making it impossible to get the belt on as there needs to be about 1-2" of "give" in the belt for it to get round the drum and the shaft of the motor.

put the belt into boiling water for 10 mins ,that will make it stretch a bit more

The belt is a stretch type and has no way of tensioning it,and consequently no method of getting any play.If like mine there is only a small back plate at the bottom of the machine feed the belt from the top of the machine and loop it around the motor pulley. Then feed it around one side of the drum pulley. You will need to push the drum to the front of the machine(it may be easier if you remove the top concrete weight first).Try as best as you can to then turn the drum pulley as you hold the belt onto the pulley. The final bit of belt will go on if you rotate the motor pulley.

HEllo i just changed mine todayalthough mine is an older HOTPOINT machine...there are 2 pulleys..you undo 2 small (8-10mm) screws that hold a coupling on..its rubber and sorta looks like a sliced onion..then you can remove the belt..both pulleys r tight, so on mine, i had to undo 3 bolts that hold the MOTOR ..you loosen these UNDERNEATH the motor..don't undo them all the way..just enough to slide the motor back and forth..this will loosen and tighten the belt like on a car alternator..USE a CROWBAR..HOLD the crowbar and retighten the 3 screws (or how many you have) that hold the motor...you should only be able to push a little over half an inch play..the belt should be fairly tight and ready to go..GOOD LUCK..my machine works fine now..we were ready to get rid of it and the belt only cost $8.00...its a bit of a tough job, but go for it..Gail
