blue smoke from a transit why?

i have a ford transit 2004 2.4 td 90,000 miles it blows a cloud of blue smoke when i start it from cold do you know why or it this is normal

Blue smoke is burning oil, could be turbo or valve stem oil seals. If it is only a small amount of smoke at startup then I wouldn't worry to much.

The blue smoke is probably unburnt fuel,if it's ok after you have started it don't worry,your engine will be a bit worn and your battery may not be great,if it is a slow starter you will get this,fuel is going in but as it hasn't yet started it blows it out when it does start,when the engine is warm the piston rings expend and it has better compression hence no smoke,it's the black smoke you have to worry about and frequent oil top-ups,stick some Diesel additive in it will help clean the injectors.A DIESEL will run forever if they are serviced by the book if not you will kill it.
