How do I turn off my immobiliser on a MK5 Ford Escort?

Hi,

I have an M reg 1995 Mk5 Ford Escort. Each time I try to start the car up, nothing happens. The ignition lights come on but the engine doesn't turn over.

If I put the hazard lights on, and turn the ignition key, the car starts up as normal.

I've taken it to several mechanics and they haven't got the foggiest idea what is wrong with it.

I don't know where the actual fault lies as something is obviously preventing the immobiliser from allowing the car to start. But I don't know what.

I've tried to turn the ignition with the red key but this has the same problem.

Has anyone experienced this problem or does anyone know how to fix this problem ?

hi mate i had the same problem with my escort and were the fuse box is you have a speaker cover
if you take that away look and you should see a box with 2 wire blocks take the one nearest you out and it should start
if that one dont work replace and take out the other one

hi
i have just had this problem with my cavallier, i kept turning the hazzards on a few times and starting her up, then i stareted her up without the hazzards and she works ok now. my imobiliser came on cos i locked the car with the wrong door so i had to keep locking and unlocking the doors using a differnt doo each time. sounds stupid but it has worked. going to a garage today to make sure no other faults so i will let you know.
worth a try any way.......

Only a suggestion. Find the fuse it's on and if it's seperate from the ignition one take the fuse out then see if it starts.
I had to do this once with central locking as I unlocked the door it re-locked itself before I could get the door open I was advised to remove the fuse and lock doors manualy.
Alternatively is take it to an AUTO ELECTRICIAN not a mechanic they have testing equipment that may find the fault.
