How do I install a starter motor in my Scott riding lawn mower?

My mower won't start unless I "hot wire" it. I bought a new starter for it but I'm scared to install it. I am not mechanically inclined. But with a little help I think I can do it.
The Scott Model 1742. Serial number GLX1742T011943.
Please answer me today (10/14/05) because I'm going to the place to do it tomorrow!
Thanks,
Sharon

I am late but here is the answer, disconnect the battery first! Once you have done that, remove the cover for the starter. Then remove the wires going to the starter. Next remove the two bolts holding the starter on. Installation is reverse. If you have been able to jump start it, I would suspect that your starter is fine and either your battery or your solonoid needs to be replaced. Check that out if you haven't replaced starter yet. It will save you a lot of money!
