it starts up first time but blows blue smoke out (alot) and is lacking in power any ideas

I'm afraid Jimmy that yet again I am correct. You will find that blue smoke is burning oil, this isn't a new thing, it has always been the case with engines and something that all mechanics will know and it is well documented on the internet.
