my pump keeps running and program dial keeps going round?

when i turn the machine on the pump runs as if its emptying then the program dial just keeps turning

Had the same problem with a Indesit washer, program dial just kept clicking round, simply fixed by clearing the filter on the washing machine, full of coins and rubbish, works fine now, hope this helps
