How can i get Fiesta 1.1 1987 started?

Car started when cold, then will not start when stopped after warming up. Now will not start at all - cannot see spark but can see petrol. Replaced spark plugs, coil and distributor arm. Still no go.

First call up you local library and ask if they have vehicle manuals to loan out. yes library ours did, ask if they happen to have yours or another model same make and year and petrol, if so go check the 'Wont start page' that goes over most faults.

That far back it may have points in the distributor cap that are either burnt or closed and need replacing or adjusting.
The other thing is to
Have a look inside the distributor cap and see if it's 'tracking' that is can you see any black burn lines where the spark has been let loose in the cap head instead of going down the cables to the plugs,if so that may be the problem, replace the cap. Most car spare shop will have one, also get an inline spark tester, they will tell you what you need to do. Do not take your old dis cap off until you have the new one. In order not to mix the firing timing, mark each plug lead starting from the left of the engine. As you mark them [with tipex correction fluid] mark the new cap in the same positions. Them remove the old cap and leads still on the plugs put the new cap on in the same position as the old one and change each lead over seperately. Make sure each lead end is clean and goes in the right terminal. then shift over the distributor/coil lead. put the in line tester on one of the plugs and Once done try starting it while someone watches the test lead. if it still doesn't start wait until dark and try starting but get someone to watch the dis and leads if the spark appears outside the leads then change the leads. The other point is if the engine EARTH lead is loose this can also cause problems, I know I've had that.
