On the bottom, there are 4 screws that need to be removed (there are screwdriver symbols molded into the plastic, but they're hard to see). Two screws are behind the brush at the outside edges, and 2 are at the very back, near the wheels. After the screws are removed, the vacuum is stood back up, and with the handle lowered, the cover can be removed. With the cover removed, there are two plastic pieces that need to be removed - the on/off switch plate, and the belt cover over the brush (a small piece of foam will come off with this piece). Now the brush can be removed with a flat bladed screwdriver - the screwdriver is inserted between the end of the brush (metal) and the brush housing (plastic), and the housing is then bent outward (carefully!) until the brush can be released. With the belt wrapped around the brush, the brush can be snapped back into place, and the belt can be stretched over the end of the motor shaft.
The on/off switch plate and the belt cover are put back in place, the cover is put back on, and the 4 screws can be put back in from the bottom.
