you'll have guessed already that you need to remove the entire panel. i had the same problem a couple of years ago and my local ford dealer took 4 attempts (they had the car for a total of 5 days) to fix it. "intermittant problem" they called it!! was covered under warranty, but..my clutch...that's a different £320 story......
