Why does the primer bulb leak?

I have a Scott's push mower that has a briggs & Stratton engine. I have replaced the primber bulb but if continues to leak gas out of it. What is wrong? the engine model number is 12J882-3125

I have the same model mower and my primer only leaked because the (pencil shaped) pin the drops down under the float in the carb was not seating in the little red rubber gasket properly. You might think about purchasing a carb kit. It should run you about $10.

The primer bulb for your engine should have a hole in the end of it. Briggs P/N 694395. It pressurizes the float bowl to force gas up into the carb. Gas leaking out of it may mean a damaged gasket between the air cleaner plate and the carb.
