i have a problem with my vauxhall corsa 1.5 TD?

i have a vauxhall corsa 1.5 TD and i brought a brand new battery for it and it only lasted 1 day the battery light is constantly on, i didnt use the car it it was stationary i went to start it and it was flat, any ideas?

its your alternator, maybe the brush pack on it has gone its that what turns the battery light on its telling you its not charging
