the MOT runs out on my 2001 scenic alize sports in july and I'm going to scrap it is there no other way into the boot I bought the car with no button on the boot lock and basically just want to have access incase of a puncture so I can get to the spare tyre etc so is there no other way of opening the boot without buying buttons and taking panels off etc

I popped into renault dealer, I have exactly the same problem that the boot relaease catch pops out when you close boot. You have to take of interier panel the push the release catch in as far as poss then put a rubber ring around the ball. then replace panal. job done

did not have an 'O'ring but made a small rubber washer to fit

tiny, August 2009
Hi

This happened because the boot button is retained by a rubber 'O'ring which had perished and split.

Here is the fix:-

You need a T20 'star' screwdriver or bit and a rubber 'O'ring that fits snugly in the recess of the button plunger stem.

Remove the 6 T20 screws from door trim including the 2 adjacent to the rear wiper motor housing.

Pull off the door trim, it is on plastic 'popper' fixings.

Remove the electric door 'actuator' (one T20 screw).

Insert boot button and fit 'O'ring.

Refit 'actuator' and check movement to ensure nothing is binding.

Refit door trim.

Quite an easy job really, the hard bit was getting the 'O'ring. I tried an 'E'clip first but it snagged on the 'actuator'

Have now found on eBay a guy offering a stainless steel clip for this repair. 99p + 50p postage. Wish I had found it earlier!

Hope this helps.

have same problem, dealer said have to buy complete new assembly approx £60, get a mate to take off rear door panel - a small rubber ring or even elastic bands tightly wound should be the answer

Your MECHANIC is talking BULL,if Renault manufactured it and it is wrong they should repair it,you use a computer go on Renault Forum sites and see if it is a common problem,if it has been recalled because of this fault someone knows about it somewhere.Yeh right!
