Can you replace the elastic fabric cuffs and waistband on a leather jacket?

I have a vintage leather jacket which is in good conidtion except for the cuffs which have holes in. The are made of a ribbed elaticated material (not leather) maybe nylon? Sewing the holes looks ropey so I thought I could remove and replace the whole cuff and waist band. Anybody know if this could be done, or where i could buy the waistband and cuffs from to replace the old ones!! thanks :-)

Just stumbled on this and I expect GB has already resolved her situation. For others who might have the same question, I would say that you really need an industrial sewing machine and some previous experience sewing with leather. I would also advise that the knit cuffs and band that you find in the fabric stores are very light weight and your A-1 and G-2 flight jackets all had heavy wool, and you will want the same or at least something comparable. You can find these on line if you look, or have Leather CARE Specialists do the job for you. Go to www.greatleather.com

I own Midwest Leather Cleaners and Repair in Billings MT (406-259-3312) we replace linings and cuffs all the time. This will cost about 40.00 as it is rather time consuming but they look wonderful when we are done. A rather experienced seamstress shoud be able to do this job however they may not have the heavy duty needles needed to sew the skins. Call you local sewing center they might carry replacement knit cuffs . Hope that helps!
