Replacing damaged electric cord?

Can I fix a damaged electric cord? The white wire is completely severed. If not, can I buy an electrical cord at a Hardware store or do I have to buy a new cord from Rainbow? How do I dismantle the Rainbow cover? I see no screws.

You spent THAT much money on a vacuum cleaner and now you're worried about the cost of a cord replacement?!?! HA HA
If you pop off the clear plastic covers, you will see some screws near the bottom. Remove these and you will be able to crack the egg open. This will reveal the area where the cord comes in. I would recommend using a genuine Rainbow cord but technically any cord rated for 13Amps or more will do. I use wire nuts to splice the new cord in. If you don't have a strain relief gasket, you might want to tie a knot in the cord inside the canister so that it won't pull back out. Easy shmeezy.
