i have a x reg astra club and my passenger side rear door will not open from inside or out is there anyone who can show me pics or a video on what to do please

I've just fixed my passenger rear door, as it would not open. I operated the central locking and it sounded like the solenoid was working but the door would not open. By chance I was trying different locking/unlocking combinations to try and open the door and managed to open it. Unlock the car, open the front/rear door on the same side as the trouble door, then lock the doors with the key fob but dead lock it by pressing the lock button twice, then open the problem door from the inside. I found a broken white wire in the rubber tube between the door pillar and the door and used a crimp connector to fix the problem. This may not work for everyone but hopefully will help some.

I had the same problem with my vectra drivers door. Found out it was a red wire that is in a rubber tube by the door hinges. Cut rubber tube carefully and check if theres any snapped wire, if so give a good connection like I did. If that is not the case its the modulator in the door that needs replacing.

hassan, April 2014
Only just fixed my car with this....removed the rubber tube...some idiots already tried this but can't solder for toffee....had to splice the tube but insulated it back together....try this before taking to a garage...

Please help. My rear passenger door , vauxhall zaphira 2006 drivers side won't open. All the doors lock and open great except the problem one. Sounds like it locks and unlocks when I press key fob, but when I pull handle inside and out, nothing happen. Your help gratefully needed. Thankyou.

None of my locks r working after the wires fused in drivers side pillar anyone know what this could b? Tried the yellow relays on fuse board no joy just some ticking noise when I press the the key fob

footlong, June 2013
I have a 1.6 petrol Vauxhall zafira 03 plate.
I had same problem with central locking. The rear passenger side door would not lock using the key fob or door key.
I cut the rubber tube (carefully, it is full of wires) until the wires inside were exposed.
Lo and behold 1 wire inside had snapped (it was a blue wire).
I rejoined the broken wire taped the rubber tube back together and PROBLEM SOLVED.
Took 15 mins.
Thank you very much to everyone who has left advice on this page.

I need to fit a new wingmirror on passanger side, on my Vauxhall Zafira 2008 Reg.How Can i strip out a inside door panel? Are there any lose parts found when taking a door panel? Please can anyone let me know step by step, what to do?Many Thanks

Hetul, November 2012
Just fixed the "one door not central locking - rear passenger" with the tip about the 2 broken wires in the B pillar wire bundle. Two crimp clips and some electricians tape and I'm back in action. Unfortunately I had the rear driver door fixed by a mechanic for the same issue two weeks ago to the tune of £276 - they said it was the solenoid. Thanks to all below for this tip.

i have the same problem with my 56 plate zafira. my doors wont lock at all and my boot will not open. I have not tried a lot. mrs said that there is a burning smell when she drives it. and also my heater motor inside the car as also stopped working a week before the locking started playing up. any ideas on these few things? sounds more like the wiring to me. but where do i start lol

mi vaxwall zafira is 2006 model the door is not clothd plzz help

heni, February 2012
i've read the previous posts which cover the door unlocking fault and radio not playing until i operate the central locking from the dash switch on my 56 zafira.to fix this there is no need to remove the trim panel, just disconect the plug from the bottom of the door, pull the rubber boot from the B pillar and repair the broken wires that are inside the boot (4 for me) and rebuild in reverse order. took about an hour.good luck

I have just had the same problem with the passenger side rear door ( 1.9 cdti design 2006 ) - all doors locked with the remote fob except for this one. Purchased a replacement motor ( £25) from motorhog ( doncaster motor spares ) following advice from my local tech guys , sadly this did not cure the problem , but i have learned how to remove and replace the door card ( allthough i dont know how you would manage to do this while the door is shut ! ).

. Using a small flat screwdriver - pry out the plastic trim with a slight twisting action, behind the chrome lever that opens the door , there is a small slot to insert the screwdriver into.

. next pull off the outer plastic trim of the interior door handle ( the one you use to close the door ) grip it firmly and pull upwards

. behind these two area,s you will find 3 star head or torx screws ( 2 behind the pull handle & 1 behind the chrome lever that opens the door )

. remove these with the correct bit and put them safe ( so they dont end up down a drain )

. next using a large ( blunt ) flat bladed screwdriver or similar blunt object - starting around the bottom of the door card - pry the panel/plastic edge away from the door enough to get your finger ends into and pull outwards to release the plastic studs attaching it the steel door ( this sounds like something has broken when they pop out but it hasn't and is the only way to get the panel off - if the plastic studs stay in the door they can be pulled out by using a pair of snipper type pliers around the stud and lever them out to replace in the panel ) pop all the studs around the bottom and up each side

. next , holding the panel at the top at each side pull upwards to release the card from the clips along the top edge - be carefull not to pull up too far as the electrical connection to the window switch & the cable linkage to the handle release are still connected

. pull out the electrical connector to the window switch & release the plastic retaining clip on the cable linkage , remove the hooked end of the cable linkage

. the door card is now free to put in a safe place

. pull off or cut off the thin plastic covering that is stuck to the door to get to the lock machanism

. remove the black plastic covering on top of the electrical connector by pulling upwards

. insert a small flat bladed screwdriver into a gap on top of the electrical connector ( seperate red clip arrangement ) and prize it upwards, this releases the electrical connector outwards

. coming from the lock mechanism upwards to the outer handle is a vertical bar which is secured at the top with a plastic clip, this clip needs to be released from the bar outwards and upwards , then the bar will slip out of the hole

. finally the lock is held into the door edge with 3 large star or torx head bolts, after removing these the lock is free

replacement is a reversal of the removal procedure above - :-) enjoy

Hope this helps - please watch your knuckles as the inside of the door is quite sharp

I will be checking out the wiring tommorrow - i will let you know how i get on.

Rob

Same problem. I checked the cable in the door sill and sure enough the yellow/black one was broken. Soldered it. Sorted. Thanks

Bob, September 2011
I have also found broken wires between the B pillar and the rear drivers door so the central locking is not working on that door (Zafira '56 plate). About 6 out of 9 or so wires are gone. Apparently Vauxhall does a 'repair kit' for this at £100 :( (door connector + trailing wires) but does anyone know if it is possible to buy just the new door connector anywhere else cheaper?

hasler, March 2011

Murph how did you manage to remove the door card with the door still locked I have the same problem

Keith, October 2010
well done! My Y reg Zafira door was locked shut and I spent hours taking off the trim and trying to find a problem with the locking mech, I thought I would look on the web and saw the common problem with wiring. Cut open the rubber boot and sure enough 5 broken wires, just reconnected the black/red wire and now the door unlocks with the central locking and the wife is happy agian.....well happier than she was anyway! many, many thanks!!

murph, July 2010
Just fixed my rear o/s door, it wasn't locking, the cause was 2 x broken wires at the 'B' pillar, inside the rubber boot. Would Vauxhall fix this for free, since its a known fault. My car is a 55' Zafira.

Cammiemac, June 2010
it wont open with the fob just keeps jumping but it will lock with the fob i open it with the key in the door

barbara, May 2010
Same here;broken wire in rubber hose between door and frame causing that door not to lock or unlock via central locking. Thanks for the info guys.

David, May 2010
thanks for all your information on the broken wires on the central locking back doors when i took the plug out of the door and stripped the rubber boot gues what 12 broken wires out of 13 how good is that thanks all you guys, daughter very happy now cheers everyone

baz26, February 2010
i had this same problem on 56 plate zafira sri 1.8
rear OS passenger door not opening despite being "unlocked". child lock was on.
after reading other forums found fault to be wiring from B pillar into base of door.
to fix open front door and wiggle the wiring loom (inside rubber tube. after a few wiggles you should hear rear door unlocking)
you then need to inspect the wiring and repair where necessary.
this seems to be a really common fault on many vauxhalls.

Rear door not opening. check fuse 8 - windscreen washer as that powers the Zafira rear door catch

Gerry, January 2010
I have had intermittent problems with rear central locking and now neither rear door works at all. I managed with this as Vauxhall told me the wires had broken and wanted over £200 to fix. Now the rear passenger door will not open at all, even manually from the inside and it seems the complete lock is gone. I dont know how to get the panel off from the inside to be able to access the door lock to fix it, does anyone have any ideas please?

broken white wire between door pillar and door

common as doggie doings

www.raptorstuff.co.uk, April 2009
if the door wont work at all wind window down, undo 2 screws holding inner door handle, take off window winder with inner c clip, then unscerw the screw holding the opening handle inside, prize the door card off the top if your careful it will be ok to put back on take multi plug off the door catch undo the 2-3 screws to remove selonoid and try and open the door catch manually you maight need new door catch.
its very fiddly with a locked shut door.
once door is open pull out the wire plug between door pillar and door and check wiring you should find a broken white wire ,common problem on zafiras

If u read the answer Glenn (2008) provided u cant go wrong!!! thanks glenn

I have had the same problem on my X reg Zafira. Be aware that on rear doors the problem is often with the wiring in the B Pillar where it enters the door at the bottom via a rubber sleeve. With continual opening/closing some wires eventually break as was the case with me (2 wires broken) and the central locking on this door failed to operate. Inspect this area first before purchasing a new lock/servo unit which will cost you about £50.00 new. The plug can be removed from the bottom of the door and the sleeve then peeled out from the B Pillar. To inspect the wires it is easiest to carefully cut the rubber sleeve along its length and visually inspect the wires (there are about 8-10 in there). If you do not see any damaged wiring then carefully tape up the sleeve with insulating tape and replace the plugs. If you do notice broken wiring then remove the sleeve altogether and rejoin the wiring preferably with crimp connectors or securely wound together and then insulated via tape. Put the sleeve back round and again secureley apply insulating tape along the complete length. I carried out the above and my central locking now works fine on all doors.
Prior to the above I unfortunately went through the process of removing the door lock/servo unit to inspect it which involved removing the door paneling. Therefore in addition to Tony's comments on Jan 07, the 2 self tapping screws are accessed by popping out the grip recess used to close the door from the inside. I tapped this from underneath with a length of wood after removing the panel screws and tabs. The insulating foam may need to be removed by pulling but this is easily re-seated with some 2 sided tape/glue dots/mastic blobs. For re-fixing simply click back in place from the top. Good Luck.

I have just purchased a second hand zafira that has this problem of central locking working now and again but the back door does not budge.

Turning the key in the ignition and pressing the buttons just reconnects the key to the car and will not solve the problem of the rear door as the motor has gone.

unfortunately door panels are notoriously flimsy and do tend to break under force however the best way to get around this is get a large flat head screw driver locate a fixing lug which connects the door card to the door itself and try to work it out slowly. Repeat this around the door and it should come away without any damage. (Best to start at the bottom that is less visible just in case)

i am doing mine this weekend so i will let you know how it went and with any tips i have found out

garry, October 2007
well i also had the same problem i tried for ages to get the panel off without breaking it but to no joy, but i did find a way to fix it, i turned the ignition on and off without removing the key and pushed the open and close button a couple of times on the key and hey presto it worked, hope this works for you too

cheekymonkey, March 2007
i av same prob same door got replacement unit from pilsdon autos (on web) 35 £, by post - yet to fit it , to remove panel, 3 screws at bottom of panel,1 behind ash tray 1behind mesh grill top right of panel 1 under rubber grommet at bottom of recess u grip to close door, behind this is a plastic bracket secured to inner door skin by 2 self tapping screws i could not find any way to access these??? so after lifting panel to lift weatherstrip up &over doorskin i then used a long driver down from top & eased them out( i think i was lucky as i got them to seat with a firm thump on refitting panel ) (must be a better way) pull off plastic sheet top left corner to access unit (to fit new unit may be easier to remove door handle for clear view) sorry i can,t give any way to remove self tappers correctly but i will be fitting unit next week and will try to solve it

tony, January 2007
I also have the same fault, all doors lock and unlock OK except for passenger rear door. Can't even manage to get the door panel off to check as I don't want to force it - I am hoping that once I get that off I can check out the motor. Any ideas ?

I have had this happen too. Still looking. Not paying Vauxhall loads of money.
