Hayter Double Three lawn mower (Briggs & Stratton engine)?

The drive on my Hayter Double Three lawn mower turns the rear wheels when they are lifted but there is virtually no power when operating normally. Is there a way to avoid purchasing a new gearbox and, for the cost (about £200 including labour), is such a repair worthwhile? Advice would be welcomed, please.

Very many thanks to "pleasant" for so promptly giving valuable advice. Adjustment to the drive cable hasn't helped but, as the drive pinions on one rear wheel are badly worn, I have ordered a replacement. If this fails, then I shall purchase another lawn mower! Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I certainly wouldn't be spending £200 on a mower that was only £550 new- and it must be at least three or four years old at the youngest.

If the wheels are still going round, then chances are it's not the gearbox. Adjust the drive cable first and second check the drive pinions inside the rear wheels- they have a habit of wearing out.
