Hotpoint WM22 out of balance?

Do you have any suggestions?

I have a Hotpoint WM22. It has been running OK for some years but the wife has complained that it seems not to be cleaning to well recently. It seems the brushes needed replacing which I did. Upon switching it on after brush replacement with a full wash the drum moves violently from side to side hitting the outer case. I presumed the motor now driving properly was putting extra load on the dampers which were old. So I replaced both dampers and rubber mountings. But although a lot, lot less the drum still moves violently to one side hitting the outer case when it first moves the drum. I realise the weight of the washing on the first move/cycle will shift, causing drum out of balance but not to the extent that it hit the case of the machine and moves it around the floor. Having been through the machine there is little else left that could cause it. I did wonder if the motor has an initial slower speed to start drum rotation prior to normal speed being applied as the motor applying full power may cause the washing to shift and hence the problem but I am unsure. Do you have any suggestions??

Mark, thanks for the advise, when I replaced the brushes the gold ring which only looked like an end cap did actually come off. I replaced it and noticed it did move on what seemed like a notch or ratchet. If this effects the rotation speed then I have probable moved it like you said, is it a speed control ?

hi, it could be that you have moved the outer ring to the tacho on the motor, look between the brushes and in the middle is a revolving magnet which then is circled by a coil, this coil is then covered by a gold coloured ring, ive knocked this before and had too higher speed rotation, turn it a little at a time then test, failing that you will have to replace the module-at the other end of the motor wiring loom.
